The Atari 2600's Custom IC
The 2600 had no RAM. It straight up had no memory to play with. The final part that made the 2600 actually functional was, perhaps in a twist, a custom IC. This one chip provides 128 bytes of ram, a programmable timer, and two IO drivers.
