The true prince in Machiavelli, he has a wonderful word for it: volgerci. He is the person who knows how to turn and turn about or as he says, follow the winds of fortune. Those are the qualities which will gain you not merely the maintenance of your state, but the glory that you seek. So sometimes you will be clement. Sometimes you will be cruel. You have to know which is right in the circumstances.
