CHAPTER

The Taxonomy of Cultural Treasures

AOA is also rethinking the taxonomy through which the holdings were collected and are still sort of categorized. When objects or cultural treasures come into the museum, they are given a number, a unique ID. And that's really kind of exciting and neat to kind of shape that up to get a challenge. I'm thinking in particular of a person called Kana Ikeave who is a parvou or drum carver. He came from Miss Homanilo, Hawaii, and came to London to see drums that he'd been studying through photographs and records for many, many years.
