When mixed martial arts first started, there was like a three-year period where Jiu Jitsu just killed it. The rest of us had way better takedowns than we had. Why weren't they winning everything? Like, well, submission holds. Judo had submission holds. There's lots of martial arts with submission holds. I can tell you literally exactly where it all started. You put a martial artist in a fighter on a deserted island and the fighter is going to sit on the beach. A martial artist will be doing knuckle push-ups in the sand. Different kind of mindset.
