The united states is renting something like a trillion dollar trade deficit. The prosperity of the country reverts to its actual productive power. And if there's any sense in which that gets cut off, you basically see the country's reverting to its actualproductive power. I would argue that this sort of situation of surviving on essentially monetary rents has an interesting historical paral with spain at the time of the spanish empire.
