During the gilded age, as there were even more people and the there was more disposable income, this actually brought women out of the home in two big ways. And with the development of new york shopping districts, the street was soon lined with major department stores that mostly appealed to women. Most places on ladies mile did have restaurants for women, but they be fast restaurants, lunch restaurants called tea rooms, or quick luncheons.
