Technology is almost always a malevolent force in the hands of humans. Wells predicted that such flight would be used in warfare to bomb cities. He very early saw the potential of bacteriology for warfare and predicted nuclear weapons before they were a gleam in any army or air forces eyes. In effect, he was predisposed, by his deep seated pessimism about humanity, to foresee the worst consequences of technical advance.
