What Does Jesus Think About the Bible? | Gospel of Matthew

John Mark Comer Teachings

CHAPTER

Am I Leading a Rebellion That Must Happen?

The word abolish is katalusai in Greek and it's used later in Matthew for destroying or dismantling a building or institution. When used of the Bible in the first century, it was actually a technical term that meant to disobey and in doing so to disrespect the Bible. You would think Jesus says, I've not come to abolish them, but to obey them or to kind of keep things the way they are. But instead, Jesus has this unique little word here to fulfill them. In Greek, it's pleurocy. It's a word used all through Matthew's gospel for a pattern or a prophecy from the Old Testament coming to pass in and through Jesus.
