The Disciple of John the Apostle of Jesus
The book of Revelation doesn't belong to that literary genre. It is a prophecy but the author wasn't prophesying or a prophet in a Biblical context as someone who goes out to the streets and started to threaten eternal fire and damnation for his audience. So John is, you mentioned he's sitting on an island in the Aegean, I think. The island of Patmos. And he's musing and thinking and some wild thoughts come to him.
