What Is Augustine in Love With?

In the Confessions there's no question that Augustine is in love. The whole point for him is that if our loves are not ordered in accord with the truth, they are going to leave us empty. That he was a person who had the great capacity for emotion, passion, desire. But ordered wrongly, that was to his ruin. And so the truth in love, go together, is almost self-evident for him.
