The Adolescent's Story
Hoff had not seen his children in almost 10 years. His wife, Olaya, committed suicide by jumping from an eight floor balcony in 1995 after a long struggle with many mental illness. Hoff asked his second son, Michael, to meet him at Vondel Park in Amsterdam. He paddled out to a fountain and positioned himself over the spout to give himself an animal that he thought would cleanse all of his intestines or, as you often like to say, get the shit out. The park service had changed the spigot on the fountain to create a more impressive spray.
