The Soviet National Anthem

At the height of World War II, Stalin launched a nationwide song contest to see who could create the new Soviet national anthem. He threw a gigantic party where everybody got outrageously drunk. One foreigner present said the Russians were as happy with their new clothes as a little boy all dressed up in his Christmas present fireman suit.
