Helping Our Children Say "I'm Sorry"

Respectful Parenting: Janet Lansbury Unruffled

CHAPTER

He Hit Me Because I Won't Give Him Something

Parents feel it's their job right to make sure that our children have these social graces. This comes from a really wonderful place of wanting to do the best for our children. My point is, i don't believe that it works that way, so i don't think it will actually help. If we add too much dialogue around that, if we say too much about it, then we're giving a lot of attention to the behaviour. And there's more chance fe're going to be putting him in a defensive place. It's challenging for a child to pop out of that and say something vulnerable like i'm sorry. Remember, this kind of lashing out is impulsive behavior.
