The Origins of the European Grim Reaper
The grim, the european grim reaper, originates during the a black plague. The bubonic plague of the fourteenth century sent proximately one third of europeans to an early grave. And that's when we have the first kind of skeletal personification of death in europe. Even though we have this figure of the grim reaper emerging with a sih in the iconic black robe and everything, it's not till the 18 forties when the term grim reaper actually is used for the first time on television.
