The Origins of Impiety

Socrates was accused of saying that he had within him what he called a daimon, or people of might nowadays pronounce a demon if they're British. But this inner sort of soul or conscience of his, he believed that that was the source of how he knew what was right. According to Plato's version, it only ever told him not to do things that he was considering doing. And there's several places in Plato, more or less, say that that was one of the origins of this charge of impiety or believing in non-standard religious ideas.
