Jekyll was a bit of a snob very much self-consciously aristocratic he was generous with his money inherited a lot of money and one of the interesting things is that you'd see him giving away money to the various charities in Jamaica at the time so he had some fine qualities. He was interested in the in the peasantry what happened is that he encountered McKay at a cabinet maker's place and he was introduced by McKay because McKay was working as an apprentice who writes poetry. Jekyll expressed genuine interest in seeing the poetry and from the area it developed and he encouraged McKay to write in in Creole Jamaican Creole, that's his fundamental influence.
