Using Amino Acids in Protein Design
There are 20 different classes of amino acids that can be used in protein design. Each class has different chemical properties, and we use computationally to place the right catalytic groups. The precise placement of any of these 20 in the right place in the structure is really what determines the function. That's the big problem that needs to be fundamentally solved when you design a new protein.
