The Great Retreat From the Chinese Mainland to Taiwan in the 1940s
After half a century of Japanese colonial rule and the Komenka movement, mainlanders were unsure what to make of these Taiwanese in the 1940s. Many Taiwan elites scrambled to present their bona fides to the KMT authorities that showed them as loyal and upright Chinese citizens.
