MI5 and MI6 are descended from the Secret Service Bureau, which was set up in 1909 to keep an eye on the rise of German military power. The SOA was a secret, irregular warfare organisation whose primary goals were sabotaging subversion behind enemy lines. It was born off World War II and disbanded after World War II's end. Next, we also have MI9, which was another born of the war and disbanded upon its end. We can't discuss every organisation, every MI, but I think ending with the government code and cipher skill is a good way to round out this interlude.
