I come from a culture of prescriptive approach to teaching martial arts. I taught all these techniques in a very prescriptive kind of way, because that was just sort of the environment of the school. And we did work on improving that over time, because we did want better fighters. We still have competitions, and in many cases, they did not do very well overall.
