Being a type setter was a pretty shit job, wasn't it? It was very tough. The ventilation and the fumes were so bad that the average life expectancy in 18 50 was 28 years. You'd work from one p m to four a m. There are kind of quite cool little details about doing it. So of them is the origin of upper case and lower case. For each front they would keep all the different types in separate drawers. And then afterwards there had to be proof readers who would assess them for mistakes they'd made.
