The Benefits of Long Distance Trade in the Arab World
Tribes would sort of keep accounts of who had killed whom, and they would seek out revenge in often protracted cycles of violence and vengeonce. Their situation as being generally poor, thinly populated and violent and unstable was really accentuated by the that they were not too far away from much more powerful agrarian civilizations. So although this was an over lmingly poor and thinly populated area by the sixth century, some small oasis towns and small cities were able to gain some benefit and some wealth from managing long distance trade.
