In his new book, David Wheeler argues that the way we think about memory is wrong. He says there are many different types of memory and they're all very different. We don't remember most of what happens in our lives but write things down to make better simulations for a future time. The brain changes as activity passes through the brain because it's trying to keep track of things which will help us later simulate them more accurately.
