Julian's letter to the misdias kind of lays this all out very nicely. But he's also coming from a cultural milieu in which it's sort of definitional that if you are involved in public affairs or commerce, you are not a true philosopher. He says, I am merely an amateur. In other words, I'm an amator, a, I have, I am in love with philosophy.
