In Japan, you buy a loaf of bread and it's either going to go bad in 20 minutes or not at all. In the U.S., there is no such thing as 'the best by date' You can eat bread for up to three weeks after its best-by date. It's like some guy took an extended shot of McDonald's and left it out and then the fries were just indestructible. They were a year later.
