Why Do Certain Noises Make You Cringe?

About 35% of the parks in the United States have sound levels that are about 3dB higher. In those areas, animals are able to hear about half as many sounds around them where noise is not present. For the rare sounds in nature, or the particularly subtle sounds, like if you're a mouse, the footfall of a coyote is the thing that's most likely to be masked.
