The Roman empire was being ravaged by the huns. flavius aetius was doing his best to keep a handle on things in the west. In four forty two, when it became clear that no more help would be coming from the east, thanks to the hun invasion, etius was forced to formally recognize vandal dominion over north africa. It wouldn't be until the romans broke the terms of the treaty that the huns again launched themselves on an invasion, this time one that would take them to the walls of constantinople itself.
