I tend to read literature as a theologian and as a historian, so it's pretty similar. What makes this Russian literature so overpowering at times is that it refuses to disengage. You know, there's a Czecho story I talk about called lights. And the young man believes in a version of nihilism which he gets out of ecclesiastes.
