The Headhunters of Formosa by Janet Montgomery McGovern
American anthropologist Janet Montgomery McGovern made numerous visits to Aboriginal areas. During her two years' day from September, 1916 to September, 1918 she taught English in a government school in Taipei. She was able to get the necessary permission to make trips into the mountains and would then set out on foot. The warm receptions she invariably received were due to the fact that they regarded her quote as the reincarnation of one of the 17th century Dutch,. whose rule over them, 300 years ago, has become a sacred tradition.
