There was something about Rumi's spirit that people found magnetic. He had a vitality that bridged the human experience with something otherworldly. When he began to speak, I dropped everything and we immediately began an intense relationship. It was electrifying. For six months, we were never apart, talking the whole time. We hardly stopped to eat or drink. This man was Shamsi Tabrizi. He was nearly twice my age and I became infatuated with him. He occupied my every thought.
