i am curious about the way that the iraq war has been treated in this 20th anniversary. i think a key example of that is how abou grave and the systematic torture that took place there is discussed as a kind of anomaly or stain on american military practices instead of foundational to it. You can't have something on the scale of the u.s invasion of iraq in 2003 without sexual violence without torture of prisoners without the kinds of brutalities that we saw there which also by the way have been completely erased from America's memory.
