The Effects of Political Beliefs on Motivation
When you challenge people's political beliefs, you're getting more amygdala and insular activation. And yeah, that kind of activation was correlated with a resistance to belief change. So your motivation at the top is just truth. Why wouldn't it be? That's just rational. But when this other part of your brain enters, it starts to root for certain ideas to be correct. It starts to feel an existential crisis when introduced to strong evidence against a sacred belief like you protect your body.
