The election of President Abraham Lincoln affected the fortunes of the Knights of the Golden Circle. Bickley predicted that the flag of the KGC would be flying over Mexico City by January 1st, 1861. As things started getting closer to the presidential election in November, people started having second thoughts. We need our men here in America to deal with the Lincoln situation, which was one of the reasons the mass movement to Mexico ended up not happening.
