How to Create Organic Themes

Plot can create theme, but by themselves are not theme. Events only have meaning when they cause characters to feel something. Magnificent Seven spends most of its running time on slower scenes in which the gunfighters interact with the villagers. This is important because it allows the story to contrast the peaceful and loving family lives of the villagers with the lonely and sometimes brutal lives of the gunfighters.
