Insulin signaling of course, peripherally in your muscles, it's going to decrease glucose. Some of these animal experiments are suggesting that insulin has direct effects on the brain that are protective against cognitive decline. Lactate is a product of glucose in the brain that fuels neurons. Insulin is something secreted by the pancreas, not entirely, but largely in response to glucose and has its largest effects on glucose handling.
