The Importance of Rhetoric

Writing is not addressed to anybody in particular. Anybody can read it. And so it's not going to have that directness that good rhetoric would have. If the people you're talking to have questions, the document is not going to answer their question. Whereas in an oral form, you can do that. You can't tailor a piece of writing towards your audience which really comes down to a particular person. Every person is different.
