Schopenhauer thought that we'd never be able to directly access this world of things in themselves. Instead, he said, why not look inward and try to understand something tat we have a much more intimate understanding of than anything outside of ourselves? Ourselves, he says it here, consequently, a way from within stands open to us to that real inner nature of things which we cannot penetrate from without.
