The Relationship Between Young Men and Older Men
Greek boys typically entered into a peterastic relationship around the same time that Greek girls were married. In order to protect their sons from inappropriate attempts at seduction, fathers appointed slaves called pedagogolae to watch over their sons. Some scholars consider that it was desirable for a one in his younger years to have had many admirers or mentors - if not necessarily lovers per se.
