Judges 19–21: On Saving the Worst for Last While There’s Still No King in the Land (Bible Talk, Ep. 81)
Bible Talk — A podcast by 9Marks & Southern Seminary
The After Effects of Judges
The final two chapters are really about the after effects of this horrific decision. And Israel breaks down into full scale civil war, and then it almost gets worse from there. So he's chopped up the woman, sent her into the 12 tribes, and they initially demand in verse 13 that Gibia, the people of Benjamin, give up the worthless fellows. It's almost as though they're saying the seat of the serpent, the sons of this demonic power. The only time Israel unites for war is when they're going to destroy their own people.
