O number ive was my favorite chapter of your book. It's called animal minds, but more generally, addresses the claims that human beings are only slightly modified apes. Since at least the time of darwin, we've heard this claim that we differ only in degree from other creatures. As i look at the evidence from the people who work on animal behaviour, it seems to me that there really is a genuine gulf. This is, to begin with, rversial. I don't dispute for a second the evolutionary continuity which you mentioned,. as darwin put it, in his view, was a matter of degree, not kind.
