Endemic means that a virus continues to circulate in regions around the world. An example of an endemic virus is something like the flue, which can still cause illness and severe illness and can kill people. At the moment, we're in the pandemic phase of this virus, which means that there's still a lot of people who've never been exposed or don't have any immunity. Scientists do feel more comfortable saying that, yes, we think it's unlikely that this virus can be eradicated.
