The modern fascination with truth serums began in the early twentieth century. A drug called scopolamine was widely used as an anaesthetic for childbirth. It was intended to lull women into a twilight sleep while they were in labor. In 19 15, an obstatrician named doctor robert house noticed that his patients weren't completely fading into a stupor.
