Mycenaean Greece After 1200 BC
Every one of the roughly two dozen major palaces in Mycenaean Greece had been destroyed or abandoned by 1200 BC. The settlement system that had been built around them, with the palaces at the apex of a settlement hierarchy, shifted dramatically. Within 150 years, the dawn of the Iron Age in Greece, the population was perhaps half of what it had been when they last ruled from their palaces.
