We wouldn't be talking about potential escalation to a nuclear weapon around the Ukraine war if that war hadn't begun at all. I think we ought to just try to deter conflict, obviously, and to do so through strength. But let's not forget another important decision which was taken by Franklin Roosevelt, namely to develop the bomb. If German scientists succeeded in winning that race, the war would have had a different outcome. That is the thought that I'm left with. By the way, I didn't go to see Oppenheimer because I'm such a books person that I just decided to read the book itself, American Prometheus. It's a really powerful work of historical biography.
