Ben Folds: I never thought of music as being a viable career, mostly because the overwhelming majority of people that I listened to and whom I respected and wanted to be like were people who probably had normal jobs. He says he felt very strongly about environmental issues when he was younger but at that time, it seemed like that was a noble and enriching field to go into. When you met Chris Walla there, did you feel a career? "I just wasn't thinking that far down the road"
