The Cost of Everything in Programming

I don't like to say right wrong, good bad. I prefer to think of things as having costs and risks and benefits and advantages. So it's not exactly that global variables are bad. They're just costly. And so in that case, a global variable is good. But you always need to ponder the cost of everything.
