The Role of Community in Pre History
A lot of these things were built and only in active use for a generation or two generations. And then they just became part of the landscape and people moved on. There's also the school of thought that this has a particular community building function, but I'm not so sure about it. If you're defining community as the elite community and they're kind of institutionalizing their control over a particular kind of resources, whether that's labor or something more tangible, you could build elite community through that kind of activity to some extent. You can also build a large slave community by just enslaving a lot of people.
