What's the Difference Between Cambrian and Silurian?
Sedgwick worked out a sequence of very highly folded and falted rocks in north wales. And that becomes the basis for what he calls the cambrian system. In 18 79, another geologist realized these disputed rock layers are actually different from the fossils in murchison's silurian rocks. He says they belong to a new system all of their own. The ordivision system wasn't formally recognized until about 19 60. But this is how this geological column gets put together.
