The U.S.-Mexico war of 1846 to 1848 was a campaign to take land from native and Mexican landholders, says Van Jones. The idea was not for Anglo-American families headed by men to come west and turn indigenous communities into laborers, he says. "The project of Manifest Destiny was to remove native peoples from the land," writes Jones.
