The book was once my dissertation many, many years ago and is an entirely different book now. But the topic is similar and I've always been really interested in this interplay between energy, energy security, and what petrostates like states that have lots of oil and gas do with those resources. And as you say, it ended up being a little more relevant at the moment than I would have expected. The statistical side is just that these states tend to be more likely to start wars than other comparable states.
